Repair Cafes

Year of Project: 2024-present

Commissioner(s): Bristol City Council

Skill sets involved: Event Planning, Event Management, Community engagement, Volunteer recruitment and coordination, Marketing, Event Delivery, Repair skills.

In 2024 I set-up the Hanham Repair Cafe as a volunteer, managing between 10-15 volunteers per event to help fix our local communities’ things, promoting repair and sustainability as well as reducing waste, saving money and promoting electrical safety. I continue to run the Hanham Repair Cafe as a volunteer.

Since setting up the Hanham Repair Cafe I have been commissioned by Bristol City Council to reinstate the first Bristol Repair Cafe in the St Paul’s area of Bristol, over a 6 month period I recruited volunteers, set-up the Repair Cafe and shared my knowledge with the newly recruited volunteers to enable them to continue to run the Repair Cafe and make it their own without me.

I have most recently worked as a consultant for the newly established Kingswood Repair Cafe (Bristol) set-up by We Are BS15 CIC.

Repair cafes are as much about community as it is repair. There is always tea and biscuits on hand and many people who engage with the Repair Cafe enjoy coming for a good chat as well as getting something fixed! I have a new found passion for Repair and everything Repair Cafe!
